Acupuncture

AcupunctureAcupuncture is a form of treatment used by inserting fine needles beneath the skin to elicit a therapeutic effect. Acupuncture is based on the principle that there are energetic pathways, or channels, throughout the body that when stimulated through specific points, can influence specific body structures and systems.

Acupuncture is a proven technique that can offer relief to pain, weakness, swelling, muscle tension, numbness and circulatory impairments.

Trigger Point Dry Needling

TDN is a treatment for muscular tightness and spasm which commonly follows injuries and often accompanies the degenerative processes. This muscular tightness and spasm will cause compression and irritation of the nerves exiting the spine. When the nerves are irritated, they cause a protective spasm of all the muscles to which they are connected. This may cause peripheral diagnoses, such as carpel tunnel, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, decreased mobility and chronic pain.

Trigger Point Needling

Small, thin needles are inserted in the muscles at the trigger points causing the pain referral. The muscles would then contract and release, improving flexibility of the muscle and decreasing symptoms.

EvaluationsFunctional Capacity Evaluations

A Functional Capacity Evaluation is defined as an intensive, short-term (usually one or two days) evaluation that focuses on major physical tolerance abilities related to musculoskeletal strength, endurance, speed and flexibility. Standardized equipment is used to obtain objective data to compare against the physical demands of a specific activity or job. These evaluations can be used to make accurate recommendations for a return to work (modified or full), return to a specific activity of normal life or confirm post employment offer requirements.

Ergonomic Assessment

An ergonomic assessment is an evaluation of a workplace and its furnishings, tools and tasks in relation to the physical abilities of the specific worker. It is used to identify and report any risk factors that the worker may encounter while employed. By identifying those risks for injury and physical stress, recommendations will be provided for specific modifications and/or practice.

Low Intensity Laser

Low Intensity LaserLaser therapy is the use of light from Super Luminous Diodes to treat musculoskeletal injuries (both chronic and acute), degenerative conditions and facilitate wound healing.

A light source is placed in contact with the skin thereby allowing the transfer of energy to the damaged tissue where it boosts the activity of the cellular processes such as protein synthesis and ATP production which result in tissue healing and improved cellular function. The beneficial effects of laser therapy include the reduction of inflammation, improved muscle and tendon health, increased vascularity and decreased pain.
